Oven heating element

The Oven Will Not Heat to the Right Temperature?

This could be a problem with the temperature sensor, the gas igniter, the heating element, or main control board.

Issue with temperature sensor

oven temp sensor replacementIf you notice food taking longer to cook than it should, the reason can be a bad temperature sensor (temp probe) If the temperature sensor inside the oven is not working as expected, it can cause the oven to not heat to the right temperature.

Make sure the temperature sensor is not touching the inside wall, as this will affect its ability to accurately measure the internal temperature of the oven. If it is, reposition it so that it’s not making contact with the wall. If it is still not heating correctly, then the temperature sensor needs to be replaced.

Issue with a main control board, it is not functioning properly.

oven main control board repairIf the temperature sensor shows accurate resistance when tested, the oven control board may be at fault. The most you can do is a visual inspection as control boards are not easy to test. In most cases, when the control board is defective, you will be able to see burn marks or some other evidence of a short. If temp sensor and wire harness are good, then it would be your main control board.

Issue with oven Igniter or heating element

Oven gas igniterIf you have a gas oven that is not heating up at all, it could be a faulty igniter.

Make sure that the oven burner is receiving gas and igniting. When you set a temperature on a gas oven, you should hear a few faint clicks followed by the typical sound of the gas igniting. If you do not hear the gas ignite and the clicking stops, turn the oven off and consider replacing the igniter.

If you have an electric oven, then the heating elements can break or wear out over time

Oven heating elementThis can usually be diagnosed by visually checking if the heating elements are glowing red or not. If the elements are not fully glowing or not glowing at all, it is time to replace it.

If you will do these replacements on your own, always make sure that you cut your power off to appliance before replacing any parts; or always considering to call appliance repair service to avoid costly repairs in the future.
